Turkey Trot 5K

Turkey Trot 5K – Baker Park
November 25, 2010

Since my 1st 5K went so well, I decided to sign up for the Turkey Trot 2 weeks later hoping to improve my time since it was the same course and I had proven to myself that I COULD finish the race.

This time I had my boys cheering me on!!

New PR of 32:11.

My 1st 5K Experience

Back in April 2010, I started the Couch to 5K (C25K) Running Program.  After 3 weeks, I was sidelined with Runners Knee and figured that was it for my running.  Even the doctor wasn’t too convinced I’d really be a “runner”.  I started out too hard, too fast, too overweight, and too out of shape.  So, I followed doctor’s orders and cross trained all summer on the bike pulling the 80-90lbs of boys in the bike trailer.  By August, I was completely disgusted that I couldn’t kick the last of my “baby” weight (ok, Daniel was almost 2 now)!!   So I started Weight Watchers, lost some weight and decided to try the C25K Program “1 more time”!!   This time slower, easier, and listening to my knees!
I made it all the way through the Program with very little issue this time.  Best thing I ever did was being fitted properly for running shoes.  Worth EVERY penny!!  So, I picked my 1st 5K race, which was November 13, 2010 (Habitat for Humanity – No Place Like Home) in Baker Park.

My goal = Finish the race without walking (and under 36 minutes if possible)!!
 I met both my goals!!

PR for my 1st 5K = 34:50

Oh, and it was 38 degrees ……That was it for me.  I experienced the adrenaline, the nerves, the excitement, the joy, etc.    My best memory for that race was chatting with Chasity Schmidt, Stephanie Freeman, and Christine Crabtree before the start (keeping my nerves in check), and then Jen Gerlock cheering me in.  Unfortunately my family was at home since Daniel was sick.
